Kevin Costner at the annual Pitchball Awards Banquet |
Pitchball. "It's the greatest game in the world," said Kevin Costner recently. "I've been doing second-rate
baseball movies when I could have been making some pitchball flick. One day I tried pitchball and two days later I gave my
golf clubs to the Salvation Army. I no longer had any need for them. Pitchball had become the game for me."
Pitchball is the coming sport. It has tension but yet lends itself to a friendly casual atmosphere. It requires athleticism
but yet it is unlikely a person will break an arm or twist a knee playing pitchball. And of course there is money to be made
for those with the talent and drive for excellence. I am speaking of The American Pitchball Association tournaments (look
for schedule at this website).
"I saw a couple of guys playing pitchball outside at the local recreation center," stated Tom Almire. "It
looked pretty intense so I followed them and watched them play. Within a half hour I was hooked. Forget expensive golf with
the long waits on tees, and the sky-high green fees. Screw that. Yeah,I sold my clubs. I'm playing pitchball."
Almire is not alone. Ron Frebis, a CEO for a major corporation, feels the same way. "I was looking for a relaxing
game I could play with my business associates. I wanted something that wasn't too physically taxing but yet not sedentary.
The answer is pitchball.

Namath at the World Pitchball Association convention. |
"I used to score almost as many women as I did touchdowns, but now I score in pitchball, both in the game and afterwards with
the broads. And yeah, take it from me, Joe Namath, women like guys who play pitchball. Some people might say that I am just
some old, washed-up guy who once used to be a popular football star, but believe you me, I've never played a game as great
as pitchball, or have been so embraced by my female fans. And when I say 'embraced', I think you know what I mean."

Pitchball Fan Rusty Clayburn. |
Rusty Clayborn is a big fan of the W.P.A. Says Rusty, "I want to be a professional pitchball player when I grow
up. Gosh those guys are swell!"
Rusty is a big admirer of Scorpion Caine "I wrote to Mr. Caine about how I could get
good at pitchball and someday be a professional like him. He wrote me back and said I should practice my pitching
and always wear a condom when I'm with a strange girl. I always did practiced a lot but now I also make sure I wear
a condom into my 5th grade class. That's because I sit right next to that ugly Amy Rogers. She's really
strange."
